Week 4: Living the Dream 2023

Week 4 was simply amazing at Camp Watitoh and VERY BUSY!

After an EPIC Visiting Day filled with lots of yummy food, warm hugs, and tons of smiles, we had our spontaneous all-camp Shaving Cream Fight. No offense parents, but that might have been the highlight of the day!

Sunday was a late sleep, a little bit of rain and then back to normal programming. Sunday night was Sports-a-Rama and the kick-off to an awesome week of weather!

Monday was our Special Event Day! In addition to the normal Monday routine, we sent a group of campers to an Archery Intercamp at Mah-kee-nac. They did awesome and had a great time! The girls had their Sports-a-Rama swim meet in the morning followed by a muddy slip-n-slide afternoon on the Lower Ball Field. The boys participated in their traditional Pan Am Day with speed ball games, basketball, an Apache, and a bucket brigade. Congratulations to Argentina and Evan for coming in first place! Monday night was a big bowling trip off camp for the Debs, Inters, Cadets and Scouts while the rest of camp loved their “Campchella” theme social! Face paint and tattoos along with an awesome dance party made for a great night!

On Tuesday, our 9th grade boys went on a twilight flag football intercamp where they played in on the turf and ate pizza for dinner at Berkshire Community College. Our girls gymnastics team traveled to Danbee for the first meet of the summer. Tuesday night was a make-up Sports-a-Rama night from the rain followed by some exciting Bunk Challenges.

Wednesday was a gorgeous day at camp and a great regular schedule of activities. The 7th grade boys played Soccer at Taconic, the 7th Grade girls played Basketball at Taconic, and the 9th grade girls played Soccer at Lenox. It was an exciting day of intercamps. Wednesday night was our traditional separates. The boys played REBUS, a scavenger hunt meets logic puzzle game. Team 1 won the whole game and got to eat first at our outdoor cookout tonight! The girls had Gladiators where the counselors challenge the campers to all sorts of fun games: slip n’ Slide Tug-of-War, Earth Ball, Sumo Wrestling with pillows, and more! Britton, Babs, Chelsee, and Anakah remain undefeated!

Thursday was one of those memorable camp days! We hosted the Berkshire Cup Sailing Regatta. Eight camps all competed on Center Lake. The entire camp had the opportunity to watch the races and cheer on our team of sailors. The competition wasn’t even close and Watitoh came in first place! It was amazing to see these campers so committed for two weeks to learning how to sail and practicing this skill as they prepared to compete. It was such a special day and really embodied the feeling of the Watitoh community. Thursday night was the very popular second round of the Townsend Cup. The Boys vs. Girls Cabin Feud, hosted by former camper and amazing counselor, Charlie Flamm, was a heated competition. You cannot even imagine the energy that radiated from the Social Hall! In an unbelievably close match up, Girls Camp won which means that we must have one more game night next week to determine this year’s winner.  We can’t wait to see what happens!

Friday was a CRAZY day of intercamps! The 4th grade boys played soccer at Taconic, the 6th grade boys played Flag Football at Winadu, and the 10th grade boys played basketball at Greylock. In addition, we sent a climbing team and dance team to Taconic. The climbers missed first place by ONE POINT and our dancers placed #1!! What a day! Friday night was our weekly campfire inside the social hall due to rain. Have no fear, we used an inflatable fire! Our amazing s’mores team still delivered Night Bite and we passed out the s’mores from the trunk of our camp SUV! Where there’s a will, there’s a way.

Tonight was an all-camp favorite, Las Vegas Night and Dancing with the Staff. Poker, Roulette, Candy-Grams, Blackjack, the Marriage Booth and more filled the Social Hall. In the annual Dancing with the Staff, six separate pairs of staff and camper performed in front of the camp. Diego and Julie took the trophy performing Die Young by Kesha!

We have an exciting week coming up with some fan favorites! Monday night is the annual Costume Social. Tuesday is Watitoh Derby where the campers and staff act like horses and race around the Hockey Arena while bets are placed. Wednesday is MTV Night on Girls side and Hunt the Counselor for the Boys. Friday will be the final round of the Townsend Cup and Saturday is Dream Day for our perspective campers.

Stay tuned for some amazing photos in the week ahead…oh…and don’t forget some of those Color War fake breaks coming your way!!
