What a week it’s been! This week was filled with lots of fun, beloved traditions, wild surprises, and just a hint of something big on the horizon. Spoiler alert: we’re still waiting for Color War to break… but the suspense is half the fun.
We kicked off the week with an unforgettable Monday packed with special events and good vibes. After a well-deserved sleep-in, Girls Camp began their day by learning about Project Morry, an organization that provides under-resourced youth with the life-changing gift of summer camp. After connecting to the cause, the girls jumped into action (literally) with a Water Carnival fundraiser that had them swimming laps, shooting hoops, leaping from water trampolines, balancing on paddleboards, and laughing nonstop, all to raise money and awareness for Project Morry. While the girls made a splash, Boys Camp was caught up in a world of wizardry, turning our lower ball field into a full-on Hogwarts playground for a magical game of Quidditch. Robes were flying, brooms were zooming, and the golden snitch was anyone’s game.
As if that wasn’t enough excitement for one day, the whole camp came together in the afternoon for one of Watitoh’s most cherished events, Carnival! The field exploded with color, energy, and music as campers bounced through inflatable water courses, lined up for snow cones and cotton candy, dunked their counselors, and showed off their face paint masterpieces. Even Green and Tan made mysterious appearances throughout the day, stirring up even more Color War buzz. We ended the night in style with our imaginative Costume Social, filled with silly, unique, and out-of-this-world outfits.

Tuesday brought a fresh wave of adventures. The Junior Boys headed to the Basketball Hall of Fame, and our TICs and Waiters set off on a morning hike. The rest of camp enjoyed a well-rounded day of scheduled activities preparing for the evening chaos! Girls Camp lit up the stage with MTV Night, and the energy was electric from the very first beat. The girls danced their hearts out, and Onondaga stole the show with first place, followed by Yuma and Ojibwa. Meanwhile, over in Boys Camp, Hunt the Waiter was in full swing. With each Waiter worth a surprise point value (some great, others hilariously terrible), the game was as unpredictable as it was competitive. Everyone was fully in it and fully loving it!
Wednesday brought a change of scenery for our Upper Senior Girls and Boys, along with the TICs, as they headed off for a day trip to Boston. They toured Harvard in the morning, enjoyed a classic Quincy Market lunch, cruised down the Charles River, wandered Newbury Street, and wrapped it up with a delicious dinner at Crazy Good Kitchen. It was a full day of sightseeing, bonding, and big city vibes. Back at camp, the Waiters enjoyed their day off with go-karts, batting cages, and some good food! Everyone else enjoyed a classic Watitoh day of fun, topped off with a relaxing movie night in the Social Hall and Field House.
By Thursday, you could feel the tension rising… could this be it? Was Color War about to break? Not quite. A surprise visit from Yoda and a Stormtrooper had campers sprinting from location to location in excitement… but it turned out to be yet another fake break. Still, spirits were high, and the buzz was everywhere. That evening, we gathered for the spectacular Senior Camp play, “Broadway Under the Stars”. This cabaret-style performance gave campers the chance to shine with whatever talents they wanted to share: singing, dancing, rapping, improv, and more. Even the fake breaks made a dramatic return, keeping everyone guessing. Hallie, our incredible drama director, brought it all together with heart, humor, and a whole lot of magic. We couldn’t be prouder of our campers for their performances!

Friday was one of the most anticipated days of the summer, Watitoh Gardens. The long-standing tradition of Waiters vs. Staff in a basketball showdown brought a whole new level of excitement to camp. From the moment the sun came up, you could feel the energy building. Campers made signs, the court was swept and cleaned, and both teams were locked in and ready. The game itself was intense from start to finish. The Waiters came out strong, but the Staff rallied hard and ultimately pulled ahead in the final quarter to win 50–45. It was a thrilling game, filled with heart and hustle, and we were so proud of both teams. At halftime, the TICs performed a fun, high-energy dance, and yes… another fake Color War break got the crowd on their feet. Congratulations to our 2025 MVP, Ben Lowsky!
Today, we welcomed prospective families for our second Dream Day of the summer. The Senior Girls took a fun outing to Tanglewood and explored Lenox, while the rest of camp remained on edge, wondering if the real Color War break was finally going to happen. With all the buzz, we even added a surprise sweet canteen treat fake break to keep everyone’s spirits high and the excitement building.
Week 5 was everything we love about Watitoh: tradition, teamwork, talent, and tons of surprises. With Color War lurking just around the corner, and events like the Staff Talent Show, Sports-A-Rama, Name That Tune, Pokémon GO, and Hunt the TIC on the horizon, there’s no telling what Week 6 will bring. But we can promise you this: it’s going to be unforgettable.
Stay tuned. The best is yet to come.
